March 8, 2010 NJSIAA South Jersey Non-Public A Boys Basketball Semi Finals Camden Catholic Irish 62 St. Joseph Falcons 59 Camden Catholic, trailing by five points at halftime, came back to defeat St Joseph of Metuchen thanks in part to a big third quarter where the Irish outscored the Falcons 14-7. The Falcons still had a chance at the end but missed two 3-point attempts in the final 2.5 seconds. Gerry Wixted led the Irish with 38 points. Anthony D'Orazio added 9. Andrew Morgan led St. Joseph with with 23 points while Quenton DeCosey added 10. Camden Catholic advances to take on the St. Augustine Hermits in the NJSIAA South Jersey Non-Public A Final. March 6, 2010 NJSIAA South Jersey Group IV Girls Basketball Semi Finals Southern Regional Rams 55 Lenape Indians 33 The Lady Rams held the shorthanded Lenape Indians to under 10 points in each of the four quarters. Lenape played this NJSIAA South Jersey semi final game without leading scorer Christina Foggie following an MRI and surgery earlier in the week. Southern Regional was led by Kristen Sharkey with 28 points. Avery Hodgson added 12 for the Lady Rams. Kayla Toomer's 9 points led the Lady Indians while teammate Brianna Wylie added 8. March 6, 2010 NJSIAA South Jersey Group IV Boys Basketball Semi Finals Cherokee Chiefs 56 Lenape Indians 50 Lenape scored the first six points of the second quarter to build a 17-11 lead. However the top-seeded Chiefs responded with a big second half to defeat sister school Lenape 56-50 in this NJSIAA South Jersey Group IV semi final matchup. Willis Nicholson led the Chiefs with 28 points. Christian Jordan added another 20 for Cherokee. Harman Ghuman led the Indians with 11 points while Phil Jackson added 10. March 5, 2010 NJSIAA South Jersey Group III Boys Basketball Semi Finals Kingsway Dragons 46 Moorestown Quakers 40 Moorestown led this NJSIAA South Jersey Group III semi final matchup by eight points with just under six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. However, a 13-3 run by Kingsway over the next four minutes gave the Dragons a 42-40 lead and Kingsway went on to win 46-40. Rondell Gilmore led Kingsway with 22 points. Elijah Bonsigore added 9 points for the Dragons. Moorestown was paced by Ben Ringwood and Tony West who scored 12 points apiece. March 3, 2010 NJSIAA South Jersey Group III Girls Basketball Playoffs Seneca Golden Eagles 54 Timber Creek Chargers 48 Seneca built a double digit lead in the third quarter only to have Timber Creek trim the lead to two points with several chances to tie the game in the fourth quarter. The Lady Golden Eagles were able to hold off the Lady Chargers and eventually win this NJSIAA South Jersey Group III playoff game 54-48. Chelsea Grover led Seneca with 29 points while Brittany Snow added 13. Lauren Alwan led the Lady Chargers with 16 points while Jasmine Martin added 11. March 2, 2010 NJSIAA South Jersey Group II Boys Basketball Playoffs Audubon Green Wave 61 Woodrow Wilson Tigers 46 Audubon started this game with a 14-4 run and never looked back on the way to defeating Woodrow Wilson 61-46 in the opening round of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group II playoffs. Audubon's T.J. Tassi came out of the locker room on fire in the second half scoring 12 of his game high 26 points in the third quarter. Wade Gies added 13 points for the Green Wave. March 1, 2010 NJSIAA South Jersey Group III Boys Basketball Playoffs Timber Creek Chargers 49 Highland Tartans 44 Timber Creek and Highland, sister schools from Gloucester Township, met in the first round of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group III playoffs. The two teams fought back and forth all evening and it seemed neither could take more than a four point lead until the final minutes of the game. Steve Moore led Timber Creek with 14 points, all of which he scored in the second half. Jamere Briggs added 13 points for the Chargers. Highland's Sean Daniels led all scorers with 15 points while Lawrence Jones added another 13 for the Tartans. February 27, 2010 Colonial Conference Girls Basketball Haddonfield Bulldawgs 47 West Deptford Eagles 19 West Deptford grabbed an early 2-0 lead, but it was all Haddonfield after that as the Lady Bulldawgs defeated the Lady Eagles 47-19 in the regular season finale for both teams. Paige O'Malley and Maddie Kiep paced Haddonfield with 10 points apiece. Briana Mulava added another 9 points for the Lady Bulldawgs. Kelly Brewster led West Deptford with 5 points. Kate MacQueen and Megan Kirschling added 4 points apiece for the Lady Eagles. The two teams will now turn their attention to the NJSIAA South Jersey Group II Playoffs. February 23, 2010 South Jersey Non-League Boys Basketball Willingboro Chimeras 58 Washington Township Minutemen 51 Kyle Smith's free throw completed a three-point play and gave the Chimeras their first lead of the night at 35-34 with 21 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Willingboro added to their lead in the fourth quarter and went on to beat Washington Township 58-51. Chris Burke led Willingboro with 21 points while Jarvis Perry added 19. February 22, 2010 South Jersey Non-League Girls Basketball Haddon Township Hawks 44 Gloucester City Lions 28 Haddon Township and Gloucester City used this non-league game as a tune-up for the upcoming playoffs. The Lady Hawks will be the top seed in the South Jersey Group II bracket while the Lady Lions will be the second seed in the South Jersey Group I bracket. An 8-0 run by the Lady Lions to start the fourth quarter trimmed the Haddon Township lead to eight points, but the Lady Hawks responded to beat Gloucester City 44-28. Jess Brown led Haddon Township with 16 points while Sarah DeCinque added 12. Irene Grimanis led Gloucester City with 10 points while Grace Cooney and Gabrielle Cooper added 5 points apiece. February 19, 2010 South Jersey Non-League Boys Basketball Gateway Gators 40 Moorestown Friends Foxes 31 Prior to the start of this game Gateway's Jon Miller was honored for scoring his 1000th career point, a milestone he accomplished earlier in the week. During the game Miller reached another milestone when he grabbed his 1000th career rebound. The final score of this game was not indicative of just how close of a defensive battle this game really was. Moorestown Friends led by four at halftime and trailed by only three points with 2:33 remaining in the fourth quarter. Jon Miller led all scorers with 16 points. Kevin Robinson added another 8 for Gateway. Jake Montgomery led Moorestown friends with 12 points. Justin Spencer-Linzie and Curran Ellis added 7 points apiece for the Foxes. February 18, 2010 Burlington County League Boys Basketball Delran Bears 62 Maple Shade Wildcats 54 Maple Shade honored their Senior boys basketball players, wrestlers, and cheerleaders on Senior Night before taking the court against Delran. Maple Shade trimmed Delran's double-digit first half lead down to four points or less on several occasions in the second half, but the Wildcats just couldn't get any closer as Delran won 62-54. Delran's Ricky Costales led all scorers with 23 points. Mike Emory added another 11 points for the Bears. Myles Drummond led Maple Shade with 17 points. February 16, 2010 Burlington County League Girls Basketball Cinnaminson Pirates 46 Delran Bears 45 Trailing by ten points in the first half, Cinnaminson began a slow but steady comeback which culminated with Christine Gannon's three-pointer with 5 seconds remaining in regulation. Gannon's three-pointer, the 100th of her career, gave the Lady Pirates their first lead of the evening and a 46-45 win over Delran. Christine Gannon was also the high scorer of the game with 18 points. Melissa Tarte added 13 points for the Lady Pirates. Delran was led by Aliyah Murray and Taylor Umbrell with 12 points apiece. February 15, 2010 South Jersey Invitational Girls Basketball Sterling Silver Knights 48 Bishop Eustace Crusaders 40 Things got exciting in this South Jersey Invitational quarter-final matchup when Bishop Eustace trimmed a ten point Sterling halftime lead down to just five points at the end of the third quarter. However, the Lady Knights pushed the lead back up and eventually won this contest 48-40. Monica Burch led Sterling with 21 points. Kylie O'Donnell added another 10 points for the Lady Knights. Jackie Schluth was Bishop Eustace's top scorer with 16 points while teammate Taylor Hudspeth added 8 points. February 12, 2010 Olympic Conference Girls Basketball Lenape Indians 74 Shawnee Renegades 24 After surrendering 17 points in the first half, the Lenape defense turned it up a notch holding sister school Shawnee to a total of 7 points in the second half as the Lady Indians rolled over the Lady Renegades 74-24. Vanderbilt-bound Christina Foggie led Lenape with 29 points and Moira Anthony pumped in 15 points for the Lady Indians. The Warrior's Dion Waiters led all scorers with 28 points while teammate LaQuinton Ross added 15. February 9, 2010 Colonial Conference Boys Basketball Lindenwold Lions 41 Haddon Township Hawks 33 Haddon Township and Lindenwold moved the tip off of this Colonial Conference game up to 3:45 PM to squeeze it in before the approaching Winter blizzard hit. Lindenwold grabbed a 10-7 lead after the first quarter and then outscored the Hawks in each of the next three quarters on the way to a 41-33 win. Lindenwold's Charles Robinson was the high scorer of the game with 20 points. Jason Hutzler added 10 points for the Lions. Ryan Rust paced Haddon Township with 16 points while Logan Murray added 12. Truman Tigers 53 Maple Shade Wildcats 33 The Lady Wildcats of Maple Shade traveled to Pennsylvania to take on the Lady Tigers of Harry S. Truman High School. The Lady Wildcats and the Lady Tigers were locked in a very close game for the first two quarters. Truman pulled away in the second half with an 11-5 run in the third quarter and a 20-9 run in the fourth quarter. Shalaya Lynch led Truman with 12 points. Elisha Dupree added 10 points for the Lady Tigers. Jackie McClellan led Maple Shade with 7 points while Brittany Granahan and Jill Dombrowski added 6 points apiece. February 5, 2010 South Jersey Non-League Girls Basketball Gloucester Catholic Rams 48 Moorestown Quakers 21 After an 8-8 tie at the end of the first quarter, Gloucester Catholic's defense smothered Moorestown allowing the Lady Quakers 4 points in the second quarter and another 4 points in the third quarter. Kristina Reiter led the Lady Rams with 15 points while Nicole Fallon added 10. Nikki McMonagle led Moorestown with 10 points while Marisa Randazzo added 5. The Lady Renegades chipped away at West's lead in the second half until they whittled it down to three points at 23-20 early in the fourth quarter. However, the Lady Renegades would get no closer. January 28, 2010 Olympic Conference Boys Basketball Shawnee Renegades 67 Cherokee Chiefs 64 Shawnee and Cherokee, sister schools from neighboring towns, fought back and forth all afternoon in this contest. Down 43-36 one minute into the fourth quarter, Shawnee fought back and forced overtime. Cherokee's Christain Jordan calmly sank two free throws to tie the score at 64 with six second remaining in overtime and it looked like the two teams were headed to a second overtime. However, Shawnee's Josh Borelli nailed a three pointer at the buzzer to give the Renegades a 67-64 win. Joe Bodnar led Shawnee with 26 points. Dillon Fields added 14. After a fairly even first quarter, Willingboro put this game out of reach with a 16-8 run in the second quarter and a 17-10 run in the third quarter. Willingboro's Aaliyah Saud-Lewis was the top scorer of the game with 18 points while teammate Micahya Owens Added 16. Christine Gannon led Cinnaminson with 14 points while Melissa Tarte added 11. January 23, 2010 South Jersey Non-League Boys Basketball West Deptford Eagles 55 Maple Shade Wildcats 42 Something had to give as two teams entered this non-league game each looking for their first win of the season. It was the West Deptford Eagles who jumped out to an early lead and led the entire game in picking up their first win of the year. Maple Shade cut the West Deptford lead to three points midway through the third quarter, but the Eagles built a twelve point lead by the end of the third quarter and went on to win 55-42. Cory Sloan and Jordan Haines had 14 points apiece for West Deptford. Kyle Britt chipped in with 11. Alex Kiel led Maple Shade with 13 points while Myles Drummond added 10. January 22, 2010 Burlington County League Girls Basketball Florence Flashes 43 Pemberton Hornets 31 After a very close and low scoring first quarter, the second quarter proved to be the difference in this game as the Lady Flashes outscored the Lady Hornets 10-2. Florence would stretch its lead to eleven at the end of the third quarter and eventually win by the score of 43-31. Stephanie Ogbonnaya-Allison led the Lady Flashes with 10 points while Sarah Muchowski and Victoria Povia added 9 points and 8 points respectively. After countless ties and lead changes it all came down to the final minute of regulation. Sterling broke yet another tie and went up 46-44 with less than 30 seconds remaining.
