Jay Casey led all scorers with two goals. Kevin Engelbert, Kevin Nelson, Joey Bernhardt, and Remy Goldthorp scored one goal each for the Hawks. | September 27, 2008 Burlington-Olympic League Football Washington Township Minutemen 41 Rancocas Valley Red Devils 20 Washington Township scored the first 28 points then went on to defeat the Red Devils 41-20. Washington Township's Brandon Colavita ran for 246 yards and scored one touchdown. Uriah Brickhouse added two more touchdowns for the Minutemen. | September 20, 2008 Colonial Conference Football Woodbury Thundering Herd 20 Haddon Heights Garnets 12 Woodbury scored 20 first half points then held off Haddon Heights in the second half to defeat the Garnets 20-12. Josh Johnson's touchdown run in the third quarter cut Woodbury's lead to 20-6. Then things got real interesting when Jim Liguori hit Darius Jones with a 73-yard touchdown pass with less than one minute remaining in regulation. The Garnets could not convert the two-point conversion attemp, and the Thundering Herd recovered the ensuing onside kick attempt and were able to run out the clock. | September 20, 2008 Burlington-Olympic League Football Palmyra Panthers 43 Bordentown Scotties 6 Palmyra spoiled Bordentown's homecoming by routing the Scotties 43-6. Lynden Alfred threw two touchdown passes and ran for another as the Panthers led 36-0 at halftime and built a 43-0 lead in the third quarter. | September 2, 2008 South Jersey High School Football Scrimmage Palmyra Panthers vs. Pennsville Eagles Palmyra and Pennsville took advantage of a beautiful late summer afternoon to square off in a scrimmage at Palmyra's Matthew Curtis Memorial Stadium. No one bothered to keep score. With less than two weeks to go until the start of the regular season, both coaching staffs were only concerned that their players executed each play to perfection. Palmyra quarterback Steve Morris already looked like he was in mid-season form when he hit receiver Warren Oliver with a touchdown pass on a play that originated from Panther territory. Palmyra will open the regular season at Cinnaminson on Friday, September 12th. Pennsville will kick off its regular season by hosting Glassboro one week later. Click here to see the photo gallery. |
| September 1, 2008 Delran Honors Olympic Gold Medalist Carli Lloyd with Parade and Celebration Less than two weeks ago, Carli Lloyd scored a goal in overtime to help the U.S. Women's soccer team defeat Brazil and win the gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Today, Delran held a parade and celebration in honor of its "Golden Girl." Proud residents lined the streets as the high school band marched by, followed by the champion Pee-Wee cheerleading squad, the champion Cal Ripken baseball team, hundreds of Delran soccer players from little league to high school, and then finally the Lloyd family, with Carli riding atop a fire truck proudly displaying her Olympic gold medal to everyone. A celebration then took place on the high school football field where Carli was honored by local councilmen, Freeholders Joe Donnelly and Jim Wujcik, State Senator Diane Allen, and several of Carli's former soccer coaches. | August 29, 2008 South Jersey High School Football Scrimage Cherokee Chiefs vs. Hammonton Blue Devils Cherokee hosted Hammonton in a football scrimmage Friday afternoon. The scrimmage gave both the Chiefs and Blue Devils the opportunity to execute a variety of plays in a game-like setting. Both teams worked on everything from running the ball up the middle to goal line defenses to punting and PAT attempts. Cherokee will open the regular season at home against Shawnee on Friday evening, September 12th, in a game that was originally scheduled to be played at Shawnee. | August 17, 2008 Atlantic League Baseball Camden Riversharks 9 Bridgeport Bluefish 5 The Camden Riversharks scored twice in the bottom of the first inning to grab an early 2-0 lead. That lead evaporated and the Bridgeport Bluefish built a 5-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning. However, the Riversharks scored three times in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game 5-5, and then the Riversharks erupted for four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for the 9-5 final margin. Mike Flannery, pitching in relief, picked up the win for Camden. Sheldon Fulse, Shaun Boyd, and Tim Johnson all homered for the Riversharks. Click here to see the photo gallery. |
| July 22, 2008 Rancocas Valley League Baseball Cinnaminson 7 Burlington Mets 0 Cinnaminson blanked the Burlington Mets 7-0 in the final regular season game for both teams. John Meadus tossed the shutout while Casey Donahue, Matt Janulis, and Mike Wasco knocked in two runs apiece for Cinnaminson. | July 16, 2008 Can-Am League Baseball Atlantic City Surf 2 New Jersey Jackals 0 Athony Granato led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run and that would turn out to be all the offense the Atlantic City Surf needed to defeat the New Jersey Jackals. The Surf did add an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning to make the final margin 2-0. | July 10, 2008 Atlantic League Baseball Camden Riversharks 3 York Revolution 1 The Camden Riversharks pushed across single runs in the second, fifth, and eighth innings and Darren Sack turned in a solid pitching performance as the Riversharks beat the York Revolution 3-1.
