December 6, 2008 NJSIAA South Jersey Group I Football Championship Glassboro Bulldogs 28 Penns Grove Red Devils 8 For the second time in as many years, the Glassboro Bulldogs finished the season a perfect 12-0 and won the South Jersey Group I football championship. Stephen Davis, Loronday Gaines, and P.J. James all ran for touchdowns for the Bulldogs. Tyquan Briggs recovered a fumbled punt attempt in the end zone for another Glassboro touchdown. December 5, 2008 NJSIAA South Jersey Group III Football Championship Shawnee Renegades 28 Hammonton Blue Devils 7 Chris LaPierre scored all four touchdowns for Shawnee as the Renegades defeated Hammonton 28-7 to win their second straight South Jersey Group III football title. Shawnee has now won 19 games in a row, dating back to the 2007 season. Chris LaPierre's fourth touchdown of the evening was his 44th touchdown of the season, a new New Jersey state record. November 28, 2008 Cape-Atlantic League Football Hammonton Blue Devils 27 St. Joseph Wildcats 0 The Crescenzo cousins, Nick and David, figured in the scoring of three of the Blue Devil's four touchdowns. Nick Crescenzo's 10-yard touchdown pass to Ian Evans came between touchdown runs of 45 and 2 yards by cousin David. Joshua Baez also had a touchdown run for Hammonton earlier in the game. November 27, 2008 Burlington-Olympic League Football Delran Bears 20 Cinnaminson Pirates 13 Delran erased an early 13-0 deficit and rallied to defeat the Pirates 20-13 on Thanksgiving Day. A costly roughing the punter penalty by Cinnaminson in the fourth quarter allowed Delran to keep their game winning drive alive. Minutes later, Bears quarterback Dan Chinnici scored from one yard out to give Delran its first lead of the day. November 26, 2008 Burlington-Olympic League Football Camden Catholic Irish 45 Paul VI Eagles 27 Camden Catholic built a 26-6 halftime lead. Paul VI rallied with 21 straight points to grab a 27-26 lead with 10:22 remaining in the fourth quarter. However, three costly Paul VI turnovers in the final ten minutes allowed the Irish to regain the lead and pour it on as the Irish defeated the Eagles 45-27. November 22, 2008 NJSIAA South Jersey Group I Football Playoffs Glassboro Bulldogs 21 Paulsboro Red Raiders 13 Glassboro jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead then held on to defeat Paulsboro 21-13. Tim Breaker figured in the scoring of all three Glassboro touchdowns by returning a fumble recovery for a touchdown and completing touchdown passes to P.J. James and Loronday Gaines. Paulsboro scored their two touchdowns on a one yard run by Darren Carter and a touchdown pass from Gerald Hodges to Willie Anderson. The Bulldogs will meet Penns Grove in the South Jersey Group I Finals the first weekend of December. Paulsboro will close out their schedule against West Deptford. November 21, 2008 NJSIAA South Jersey Group IV Football Playoffs Southern Regional Rams 14 Cherokee Chiefs 13 The Cherokee Chiefs and Southern Regional Rams headed into overtime with the score knotted 7-7. The Rams scored on their first possession of overtime on a touchdown pass from Brian Sullivan to Josh Broadbent. Kyle Gross kicked the PAT to give the Rams a 14-7 lead. Cherokee answered back on their first possession with a touchdown pass from Major Mobley to Tyler Powell. However, a high snap on the PAT attempt ended the night for Cherokee and sent Southern Regional to the South Jersey Group IV Finals where they will meet Mainland. November 15, 2008 NJSIAA South Jersey Group III Football Playoffs Triton Mustangs 28 Brick Township Dragons 7 Triton erased an early 7-0 deficit and came back to defeat the Brick Township Dragons by the score of 28-7. Rocco Colucci and Levoy Bennett had two rushing touchdowns apiece for the Mustangs. Joe Gable scored Brick Township's touchdown on a 5-yard run. Triton will face top-seeded Shawnee in the next round of the South Jersey Group III playoffs. Brick Township will close out its 2008 schedule by playing Brick Memorial on Thanksgiving Day. Breaker's two touchdown passes were to James Brown and Dainen Green. Stephen Davis and Loronday Gaines both added rushing touchdowns for the Bulldogs. Glassboro will move on to face Paulsboro in the second round of the playoffs, while Gloucester City prepares for its annual Thanksgiving Day game against crosstown rival Gloucester Catholic. Chris Collins added a 25-yard interception return for another Timber Creek touchdown. Four plays later, Bears quarterback Dan Chinnici hit Brandon Bourne with a 9-yard touchdown pass. October 24, 2008 Tri-County Conference Football Clearview Pioneers 47 Highland Tartans 7 Highland struck first and grabbed an early 7-0 lead on an 80-yard touchdown run by Sean Daniels. After that it was all Clearview as the Pioneers scored 47 unanswered points. Running back Nick Cacciola ran for three touchdowns. Nick Cacciola also threw one touchdown pass to quarterback John Robinson. In addition to being on the receiving end of Nick Cacciola's touchdown pass, John Robinson ran for one touchdown of his own and completed two touchdown passes to Chad Gavinese. Deon Parham-Stokes ran for two more Palmyra touchdowns and Lynden Alfred threw two touchdown passes. Even the lopsided score didn't dampen the Riverside spirit on homecoming day as the Riverside fans and cheerleaders were really into this game right up to the final play. Tracy Romberger, Caitlin Moynihan, Lindsey Bell, Ashley Jaekel, Megan Meszaros, and Meaghan Tohill were all honored for their years of dedication and hard work. The game itself ended in a 0-0 tie. Bordentown's Ashley Adams and Burlington Township's Sam Maver were both brilliant in goal stopping every shot that came their way to keep their opponent off the scoreboard. October 11, 2008 Burlington-Olympic League Football Burlington Township Falcons 20 Paul VI Eagles 14 Burlington Township's Justin Barner hit Isiah Andrews with his second touchdown pass of the day in the fouth quarter. The Falcons had led 13-7 and this score made it 20-7. No one knew how huge that touchdown would be at the time. Moments later, Paul VI's Chris Hutton beat the Falcons defense on a 60-yard reception from Eagles quarterback Khaalig Burroughs. Two plays later Jordan Dalton punched it in from three yards out to cut the Township lead to 20-14 with 30 seconds remaining. After that it was all Haddonfield, as the Bulldawgs reeled off 28 unanswered points to defeat the Rams 34-7. Haddonfield quarterback Phil Bhaya ran for two touchdowns and completed two touchdown passes, both to Mike Rivard. The win was Haddonfield's 500th lifetime win in the school's football program.
