March 22, 2009 31st Annual Albert J. Carino Girls' Basketball Club of South Jersey All-Star Game Blue All-Stars 90 Red All-Stars 72 Thirty of South Jersey's finest senior girls basketball players got together for the 31st Annual Albert J. Carino Girls' Basketball Club of South Jersey All-Star Game at Gloucester City High School. The Blue squad, comprised of the Colonial Conference, the Cape-Atlantic League, and the Tri-County Conference minus host Gloucester City defeated the Red squad by the score of 90-72. The Red squad consisted of the Burlington County League, the Olympic Conference, and host Gloucester City. Salem's Che'Na Thompson led all scorers with 15 points. Lindenwold's Aspen Price-Perry and Vineland's Charity Harris added 14 and 13 points respectively for the Blue squad. Westampton Tech teammates Brittanie Payne and Amber Spady led the Red squad with 12 and 10 points respectively. Click here to see the photo gallery. |

March 5, 2009 NJSIAA South Jersey Group I Boys Basketball Playoffs Burlington City Blue Devils 79 Palmyra Panthers 71 Burlington City grabbed an early lead and led most of the way in this contest. Palmyra was able to hang in there, close the gap in the second half, and grab a brief 57-56 lead with 5:47 remaining in regulation. Palmyra actually had a chance to win this game with just seconds remaining in regulation, but the Panthers missed a layup and this game went into overtime. The overtime period was all Burlington City as the Blue Devils outscored the Panthers 13-5 to win this contest 79-71. Alphonso Bradford led Burlington City with 28 points. Markese Morris added 15 points. Quron Pratt and Steven Morris had 28 points and 15 points respectively for the Panthers. Click here to see the photo gallery. |

March 3, 2009 NJSIAA South Jersey Group IV Boys Basketball Playoffs Cherokee Chiefs 73 Eastern Vikings 50 After a relatively close first half, Cherokee opened this game up with a 19-12 third quarter, then finished off the Vikings with a 23-14 fourth quarter. Eastern's Shumeek Scott led all scorers with 22 points. Bobby Harris added 14 points for Eastern. Ronson Quick led Cherokee with 20 points while Willis Nicholson added 17 points for the Chiefs. March 3, 2009 NJSIAA Central Jersey Group II Girls Basketball Playoffs Delran Bears 51 Hillside Comets 50 Delran jumped out to a 30-17 halftime lead. Slowly but surely, Hillside chipped away at the Lady Bear's lead in the second half, and cut the Delran lead to two with 1:23 remaining in the game. After Delran pushed the lead back up to four, Hillside's Kiana Fletcher hit a 3-pointer with less than one second remaining to make the score 51-50. But that was as close as the Lady Comets would come as the final tenths of a second clicked off the clock. Delran's Vanessa Hejnas led all scorers with 22 points. Jess McHugh added 17 points for the Lady Bears. Hillside received balanced scoring from Aika Emmanuel, Jemeka Parsons, and Kiana Fletcher who scored 14 points, 13 points, and 12 points respectively. February 27, 2009 South Jersey Non-League Boys Basketball Clearview Pioneers 67 Pinelands Wildcats 45 Clearview jumped out to an 18-8 lead at the end of the first quarter then cruised to a 67-45 win over visiting Pinelands in this non-league game. Kevin Burke led the Pioneers with 21 points while Tyler Sefcik paced the Wildcats with 21 points. As the game approached the final minutes of the fourth quarter, coaches Jim Woolbert and John Tierney pulled their seniors one by one as they received a huge ovation from the crowd in their final game. February 26, 2009 Tri-County Conference Girls Basketball Salem Rams 42 Gloucester Catholic Rams 39 The Lady Rams of Salem outscored the Lady Rams of Gloucester Catholic 24-12 in the second half to win this Tri-County Conference contest 42-39. Gloucester Catholic led most of this game until Salem grabbed the lead midway through the fourth quarter. Gloucester Catholic's Megan Shaughnessy led all scorers with 20 points. February 19, 2009 Burlington County League Boys Basketball Rancocas Valley Red Devils 55 Pemberton Hornets 43 Pemberton made this game interesting by trimming the Rancocas Valley lead to six points at the end of the third quarter. However, the Red Devils went on a 16-10 run in the final eight minutes to win this contest 55-43. Mike Bersch led Rancocas Valley with 18 points. Nnamdi Njoku added 13 points for the Red Devils. February 18, 2009 Burlington County League Boys Basketball Cinnaminson Pirates 53 Moorestown Quakers 36 Trailing by four points at halftime, Cinnaminson stormed back and outscored the Quakers 32-11 in the second half to win this Burlington County League contest 53-36. The 17-point margin at the final buzzer was Cinnaminson's largest lead of the night. Mark Tumas led Cinnaminson with 14 points. February 13, 2009 Burlington County League Boys Basketball New Egypt Warriors 46 Bordentown Scotties 37 Trailing 16-4 after the first quarter, Bordentown clawed their way back into this game and cut the New Egypt lead to just one point in the second half. However, New Egypt held on and pulled out a 46-37 win over the Scotties. Kevin Janowski, Desmond Hubert, and Mark Pryzbylkowski each had 11 points for the Warriors. February 12, 2009 Tri-County Conference Girls Basketball Gloucester City Lions 69 Kingsway Dragons 41 Gloucester City honored its senior players and parents on Senior Night. Then, the Lady Lions took care of business by beating Kingsway 69-41. Erin MacAdams led Gloucester City with 23 points. Marissa Cooper added 15 points and Kaylee Conner added 14 points for the Lady Lions. Alyssa Wiggins led Kingsway with 10 points. February 6, 2009 Burlington County League Girls Basketball Burlington City Blue Devils 60 Maple Shade Wildcats 26 The Lady Wildcats and Lady Blue Devils got together to play some basketball and raise awareness about cancer. Pink ribbons, pink headbands, and pink socks were worn by the girls on the floor. Maple Shade coach Marybeth Danowski wore a pink top on the sideline. Burlington City coach Jay Liberti got into the spirit by wearing a pink tie. As for the game itself, the Lady Blue Devils defeated the Lady Wildcats 60-26. February 5, 2009 Burlington County League Boys Basketball Westampton Tech Panthers 56 Moorestown Quakers 49 Westampton Tech tried to blow this game wide open by starting the second half on a 9-0 run to make the score 35-20 with 5:51 remaining in the third quarter. However, Moorestown responded and kept the score close right up to the final buzzer. Moorestown's Tony West was the game's high scorer with 21 points. Mike Myers added 10 for the Quakers. January 24, 2009 Burlington County League Boys Basketball Riverside Rams 69 Maple Shade Wildcats 39 After a relatively close first quarter, Riverside blew this game wide open with a 21-6 second quarter and a 20-8 third quarter. Mike Smith led four Riverside scorers in double digits with 18 points. Abdul Bangura had 12 points, Kevin Joo had 11 points, and Dylan Klemm had 10 points for the Rams. January 23, 2009 South Jersey Non-League Boys Basketball Triton Mustangs 61 Haddon Township Hawks 58 Haddon Township's Mike McGee hit a three-point shot at the buzzer to send this game into overtime. However, the Tritons outscored the Hawks 12-9 in the extra period to win this non-league contest 61-58. Haddon Township's Tony Hawkins was the leading scorer with 19 points. A furious comeback by the Lady Panthers in the fourth quarter made things interesting, but Haddon Township pulled away to a 42-31 win. In the end the Falcons prevailed by the score of 39-36. Township's Isaiah Andrews led all scorers with 18 points. Kevin Burum had 15 points for the Ravens while Mike Lorenzo added 12. January 15, 2009 Colonial Conference Boys Basketball Audubon Green Wave 54 Gateway Gators 53 Leading most of the way, the Green Wave had to rely on a last second bucket to send this Colonial Conference matchup into overtime. The Green Wave outscored the Gators 8-7 in the extra frame to win 54-53. Gateway's Jon Miller led all scorers with 18 points. Kevin Robinson added 16 for the Gators. T.J. January 12, 2009 South Jersey Non-League Boys Basketball Seneca Golden Eagles 66 Kingsway Dragons 64 Trailing 16-6 after the first quarter, Kingsway battled back to take a brief lead in the third quarter before Seneca knotted the score 54-54 at the end of regulation. The Golden Eagles outscored the Dragons 12-10 in the extra period to win this non-league game 66-64. Seneca's Rich McNamara was the game's high scorer with 25 points.
