December 4, 2009 NJSIAA South Jersey Group III Football Championship Hammonton Blue Devils 23 Timber Creek Chargers 17 Hammonton defeated Timber Creek 23-17 as the Blue Devils picked up their first South Jersey Group III sectional title in school history. Josh Baez ran for two touchdowns, Nick Crescenzo ran for another touchdown, and Esteban Sandoval added a field goal. After scoring three points in the first three quarters, Timber Creek's offense came alive scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter. Niquan Walker hit Sean Thomas with a touchdown pass and Niquan Walker ran for another touchdown. However, Timber Creek's comeback attempt came up a little short as the Chargers would come no closer than 23-17. Click here to see the photo gallery. |

November 28, 2009 Colonial Conference Football Paulsboro Red Raiders 28 West Deptford Eagles 20 Paulsboro outscored West Deptford 14-6 in the second half which proved to be the difference as the Red Raiders defeated the Eagles 28-20. The Red Raiders needed to stop the Eagles in the red zone with under a minute remaining to preserve the victory. Kevin Johnson threw three touchdown passes for Paulsboro and Aaron Tilden threw a touchdown pass to Casey Grimes. Jimmy Owens had two touchdown runs for West Deptford. November 26, 2009 Tri-County Conference Football Kingsway Dragons 34 Clearview Pioneers 7 Kingsway honored their senior football players, cheerleaders, and band members before the last football game of the season. Then, the Dragons went out and took care of business defeating Clearview from neighboring Mullica Hill 34-7. Rasheed Williams ran for two touchdowns and was also on the receiving end of a 76-yard touchdown pass from Rondell Gilmore. Clearview got on the scoreboard in the third quarter on a touchdown pass from George Eisenhart to Connor McCafferty. November 21, 2009 NJSIAA South Jersey Group IV Football Playoffs Egg Harbor Township Eagles 41 Toms River East Raiders 30 Egg Harbor Township and Toms River East combined for 71 points and eight lead changes in a very exciting South Jersey Group IV semifinal game. Toms River East took a 30-27 lead early in the fourth quarter on a touchdown pass to Mario Steriti. The Eagles took the lead for good when Stephan Thomas returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown. Zach Agostino sealed the game with his third rushing touchdown of the day. Egg Harbor Township will meet Cherokee for the South Jersey Group IV title the first weekend in December. November 20, 2009 NJSIAA South Jersey Group II Football Playoffs Haddonfield Bulldawgs 15 West Deptford Eagles 13 Haddonfield pulled off the shocker with a 15-13 upset win over second-seeded West Weptford. Jimmy Owens had just given the Eagles a 13-12 lead in the fourth quarter on his second touchdown run of the night. The Bulldawgs moved the ball down into field goal range in the final five minutes of regulation. Michael Rivard split the uprights with a 20-yard field goal with 4.9 seconds remaining in the game. Haddonfield will face Haddon Heights on Thanksgiving Day in a rivalry that's been going on for over 100 years. The Bulldawgs will then face top-seeded Delsea in the South Jersey Group II football finals. West Deptford will close out the season Thanksgiving weekend against Paulsboro. November 14, 2009 NJSIAA South Jersey Group I Football Playoffs Paulsboro Red Raiders 29 Haddon Heights Garnets 20 Haddon Heights took a 14-13 lead into the locker room at halftime, but Paulsboro came out fired up in the second half and outscored the Garnets 16-6 to win this playoff game 29-20. Kevin Johnson completed his second touchdown pass of the afternoon, this time to Sean McClain. Zach Greenwald had a touchdown run for the Red Raiders, and Mike MacCarone booted a 30-yard field goal. Paulsboro will go on to face top-seeded Glassboro in the second round of the South Jersey playoffs while Haddon Heights prepares for their annual Thanksgiving rivalry against Haddonfield. November 7, 2009 Colonial Conference Football Audubon Green Wave 41 Gateway Gators 12 John Leamy returned the opening kickoff 80 yards to give Gateway a 6-0 lead 15 seconds into this game. The next 47 minutes would be all Audubon. Brian Flacco ran for four touchdowns. Chris Borgesi ran for a touchdown and was also on the receiving end of a Brandon Hill touchdown pass. Before the game Audubon paid tribute to their senior football players, cheerleaders, and band members on "Senior Day" for their years of hard work and dedication. November 6, 2009 Burlington-Olympic League Football Florence Flashes 30 Palmyra Panthers 27 Palmyra's Steven Morris threw three first half touchdown passes, two to Romaine Evans and one to Eric Carmichael, as the Panthers built a 27-13 halftime lead. The Flashes shut down Palmyra in the second half, and Korey Linico ran for two Florence touchdowns, as the Flashes knotted the score 27-27 in the fourth quarter. Just when it appeared this game might be headed toward overtime, Florence placekicker Dakota Benish came through and won the game in dramatic fashion on a 36-yard field goal in the final 1.9 seconds of the game. October 31, 2009 Burlington-Olympic League Football Burlington City Blue Devils 20 Maple Shade Wildcats 6 Shawn Diamond connected with Shaquan Hall on two first half touchdown passes as Burlington City built a 13-0 halftime lead. When Maple Shade came out and scored the first points of the second half on a Robert Marithe Harris touchdown run, it appeared as if momentum might have changed. However, the Wildcats could get no closer than 13-6. Burlington City would add a fourth quarter touchdown on a Devon Jones run to make the final score 20-6. Click here to see the photo gallery. |

October 31, 2009 Colonial Conference Football Woodbury Thundering Herd 40 Overbrook Rams 6 Brian Purnell completed three touchdown passes to two different receivers. Anthony Averett ran for two touchdowns and Jared Roberts added another as Woodbury beat up on Overbrook by the score of 40-6. October 29, 2009 Burlington County League Boys Soccer Rancocas Valley Red Devils 3 Cinnaminson Pirates 0 Alec Golini and Luca May scored first half goals and Kyle Teschko added a goal with just minutes remaining in regulation as Rancocas Valley blanked Cinnaminson 3-0 in one of the final regular season games for both teams. Jake Kapulskey made four saves in goal to earn the shutout win for the Red Devils. Rancocas Valley will host Howell next week as the NJSIAA boys soccer playoffs get under way. October 23, 2009 Burlington-Olympic League Football Shawnee Renegades 29 Camden Catholic Irish 8 Shawnee defeated Camden Catholic 29-8 behind four touchdown runs by Ben Schwing and a field goal by Brian Garganio. Camden Catholic cut Shawnee's lead in half at 16-8 in the beginning of the third quarter. However, Ben Schwing's final two touchdowns of the evening sealed the game for the Renegades. October 23, 2009 South Jersey Non-League Field Hockey Eastern Vikings 3 Moorestown Quakers 0 Two of South Jersey's finest field hockey teams met when the Lady Quakers of Moorestown hosted the Lady Vikings of Eastern. After a scoreless first half, the Lady Vikings scored two quick goals midway through the second half. Mariel Papa scored the first Eastern goal followed by Jaclyn Beasley three minutes later. Kelsey Mitchell added the third Eastern goal on a penalty stroke with less than two minutes to play. "Rocky" Cancellieri Stadium. Bordentown's Breon Walker ran for two touchdowns. Scottie quarterback Brett Pedersen completed a touchdown pass to Sean Eleuteri. October 9, 2009 Burlington-Olympic League Football Eastern Vikings 24 Seneca Golden Eagles 13 A touchdown reception by Chris Reider, a touchdown run by Tyler Knoblauch, and a Nick DiNote field goal helped Eastern build a 17-0 halftime lead. Seneca made things exciting in the fourth quarter on a Steve Greco touchdown reception and a touchdown run by Greco. However, the Golden Eagles would get no closer than 17-13. October 2, 2009 Tri-County Conference Football Delsea Crusaders 42 Clearview Pioneers 2 Austin Medley ran for three touchdowns and Sean McPherson ran for another two as Delsea defeated Clearview 42-2 and showed why they are one of the top football teams in South Jersey. The Crusader's defense was equally impressive, essentially shutting out the Pioneers. Clearview's only points of the game came when Delsea fell on a mishandled pitch out in its own end zone.
