March 9, 2011 NJSIAA State Group I Girls Basketball Semi-final Haddon Township Hawks 47 New Egypt Warriors 43 New Egypt outscored Haddon Township 13-7 in the third quarter to grab a one point lead. The Lady Hawks stormed back to build a ten point lead in the fourth quarter, only to have New Egypt cut the lead to seven on Emily Baucher's 3-pointer. Haddon Township was able to hang on and defeat the Lady Warriors 47-43. Jess Brown led Haddon Township with 16 points. Sara DeCinque added 13 points for the Lady Hawks, including two 3-pointers. Haddon Township as a team had five 3-point shots. Emily Bausher led New Egypt with 27 points, including three 3-point shots. Haley Anderson added 9 points for the Lady Warriors. March 8, 2011 NJSIAA South Jersey Group I Boys Basketball Final Pitman Panthers 75 Penns Grove Red Devils 55 When Pitman opened a ten point lead late in the third quarter, Penns Grove responded by cutting the lead to seven at the end of the third quarter. Pitman opened leads of 11 points and 13 points in the fourth quarter, but this time the Red Devils could not respond. Following a Penns Grove technical foul, Pitman ran away with this game, outscoring Penns Grove 31-18 in the fourth quarter to win the South Jersey Group I sectional final 75-55. Luke Dickson led Pitman with 25 points. Dylan Colgate added 24 for the Panthers. Dickson and Colgate hit a combined 15 free throws in the fourth quarter. March 7, 2011 NJSIAA South Jersey Group IV Boys Basketball Final Shawnee Renegades 53 Williamstown Braves 51 Joe Bodnar's long 3-pointer as time expired allowed Shawnee to defeat Williamstown in dramatic fashion and win the South Jersey Group IV sectional title. A 12-0 run at the start of the fourth quarter allowed Shawnee to overcome a five point deficit and grab a 45-38 lead. However, Williamstown was not done. After Julian Martin put the Braves up 51-50 with 12.6 seconds remaining, that set the stage for Bodnar's dramatic game winning shot. Bodnar finished the game with 24 points, including six 3-point shots. Matt Chiusano added 23 points for the Renegades, including nine points in the fourth quarter. March 5, 2011 NJSIAA South Jersey Group III Boys Basketball Semi-final Kingsway Dragons 48 Ocean City Red Raiders 41 Ocean City outscored the Dragons 13-9 in the third quarter to cut Kingsway's lead to seven points. Then the Red Raiders scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to trim Kingsway's lead to just three points. But the Dragons outscored the Red Raiders 6-2 the rest of the way to hold on and defeat Ocean City 48-41 in this semi-final matchup. Troy Jenkins led Kingsway with 16 points while Rondell Gilmore-Lane added 11 for the Dragons. Matt Bosch led Ocean City with 15 points. Tom Ballezzi pumped in 10 points for the Red Raiders. March 4, 2011 NJSIAA South Jersey Group II Girls Basketball Semi-final Sterling Silver Knights 32 Willingboro Chimeras 25 Sterling and Willingboro fought in a tight, low scoring semi-final matchup. The game was tied after the first and third quarters, and it appeared neither team wanted to take more than a two point lead through the first three quarters. The Lady Knights finally opened a five point lead at 30-25 with just over two minutes remaining in the game. Sterling went on to outscore the Lady Chimeras 9-2 in the final quarter to win this semi-final game 32-25. Monica Burch led Sterling with 14 points. Rachel Hodge added 8 points for the Lady Knights. March 3, 2011 NJSIAA South Jersey Group I Boys Basketball Quarterfinal Lindenwold Lions 65 Salem Rams 60 Trailing 45-41 after three quarters, Salem began the fourth quarter with an 11-8 run and pulled within one point of Lindenwold at 53-52 with just under four minutes remaining in the game. However, the Lions were able to hold off the Rams and win this playoff game 65-60. Cruize Rainey led Lindenwold with 17 points. Bruce Hicks and Jason Hutzler added 14 points apiece for the Lions. March 2, 2011 NJSIAA South Jersey Group II Boys Basketball Quarterfinal Medford Tech Jaguars 76 Collingswood Panthers 66 Medford Tech led by ten points entering the fourth quarter. Collingswood cut the lead to three points with just under two minutes remaining in the game. A big 3-point shot pushed the Jaguar's lead up to six points, and after some free throws in the final minute, Medford Tech won 76-66. Donte Martinez led Medford Tech with 24 points while Devonte Carey added 16. Medford Tech as a team hit nine 3-point shots. Martinez had four 3-pointers and Carey had two 3-pointers. March 1, 2011 NJSIAA South Jersey Group I Boys Basketball Playoffs Haddon Township Hawks 58 Audubon Green Wave 44 Audubon and Haddon Township, familiar Colonial Conference rivals, met in the opening round of the playoffs. The eighth-seeded Green Wave and the ninth-seeded Hawks battled back and forth for the first 16 minutes with Audubon taking a one point lead into the locker room. Haddon Township outscored the Green Wave 15-8 in the third quarter and went on to win 58-44. Ryan Rust led Haddon Township with 17 points, including two 3-point shots. Logan Murray added 16 points for the Hawks. Audubon's T.J. Tassi was the high scorer of the game with 22 points. Charlie Slack added 10 points for the Green Wave. February 28, 2011 NJSIAA South Jersey Group II Girls Basketball Playoffs Delran Bears 57 Collingswood Panthers 23 Collingswood just could not buy a basket in the first 15 minutes of this game. The Lady Panthers finally got on the scoreboard with 24 seconds remaining in the first half when Ellie O'Neill hit a free throw. Unfortunately for Collingswood, the Lady Bears had already scored 34 points. Collingswood fared much better in the second half, scoring 22 points. But it was Delran winning 57-23 to move on to the next round of the playoffs. Taylor Umbrell led Delran with 16 points, including three 3-point shots. Lea Enoch added 12 points for the Lady Bears. February 24, 2011 South Jersey Non-League Girls Basketball Gloucester City Lions 51 Collingswood Panthers 26 Gloucester City opened this game on a 21-2 run and never looked back in defeating the host Lady Panthers 51-26 in this non-league matchup. Held to just six points in the first half, Collingswood found some offense after the intermission as the Lady Panthers scored 20 points in the second half. Gloucester City's Gabrielle Cooper was the high scorer of the game with 19 points. Cori Conner added 11 points for the Lady Lions. February 23, 2011 Burlington County League Boys Basketball Cinnaminson Pirates 67 New Egypt Warriors 60 Napolean Blamon nailed a three-pointer with just over two minutes remaining in the third quarter to give the Pirates their first lead of the night at 38-37. Cinnaminson built a lead in the fourth quarter only to see the Warriors cut the lead to two points in the final minutes. The Pirates would be able to push the lead back up to seven and win 67-60. Napolean Blamon was the high scorer of the game with 38 points, including five 3-point shots. Max DiLeo had 18 points for Cinnaminson. February 18, 2011 Olympic Conference Girls Basketball Lenape Indians 51 Triton Mustangs 22 A big second quarter allowed Lenape to build a 33-7 halftime lead. The Lady Mustangs stormed out of the locker room after halftime and outscored Lenape 13-6 in the third quarter to cut into the Lady Indians' lead. But Lenape regrouped and outscored Triton 12-2 in the final quarter to win this Olympic Conference contest 51-22. Brianna Wylie led Lenape with 26 points. Brianna scored 12 of her 26 points in the second quarter. Advia Campbell added 12 for the Lady Indians. Deja Bullock led Triton with 10 points while Kaylee Mitchell added 6. February 17, 2011 Olympic Conference Boys Basketball Timber Creek Chargers 46 Triton Mustangs 33 Timber Creek outscored Triton 13-2 in the third quarter to open a three point halftime advantage into a 30-16 lead. Triton tried to bounce back in the fourth quarter, but the Mustangs could get no closer than nine points at 40-31 with just over three minutes remaining in the game. Timber Creek's Mikal Demby was the high scorer of the game with 20 points. D.J. Dunham added 11 points for the Chargers. Brandi Bell sank two free throws to extend Highland's lead from one point to three points with 10 seconds remaining. Gloucester City still had a chance to tie the game, but the Lion's shot at the buzzer was off the mark. Marvin Ayi-Bamah led Highland with 14 points while Jon Williams added 10. February 15, 2011 Burlington County League Boys Basketball Maple Shade Wildcats 55 Riverside Rams 53 Trailing 29-19 at halftime, Riverside outscored Maple Shade 23-8 in the third quarter to take a 42-37 lead into the final frame. Maple Shade bounced back, and after the two teams traded the lead, Riverside's Nick Wallace sank a free throw to put the Rams up by one point with 5.6 seconds remaining. Then, Phil Jarmon won the game for the Wildcats on Senior Night with a 3-point basket at the buzzer. Kevin Eldridge led Maple Shade with 18 points, including three 3-pointers in the game and 5 free throws in the fourth quarter. Pakola Borges added 8 points for the Wildcats. A big third quarter where the Lady Pirates outscored Moorestown 14-8 allowed Cinnaminson to build a 13-point lead entering the fourth quarter. The Cinnaminson defense held the Lady Quakers to single-digit scoring in all four quarters. Sherron Howard led Cinnaminson with 15 points while Erin Woods added 9. February 11, 2011 South Jersey Non-League Girls Basketball Moorestown Quakers 49 Audubon Green Wave 42 Moorestown jumped out to an 11-5 lead after the first quarter. Audubon tried to chip away at the Lady Quakers' lead for the rest of the game. The Lady Wave were able to cut Moorestown's lead to three points at the beginning of the third quarter and two points midway through the fourth quarter, but the Lady Quakers responded with a surge both times. Moorestown eventually won this non-league game 49-42. Erica Estevez led Moorestown with 13 points. Stephanie Toy and Marisa Randazzo added 11 points apiece for the Lady Quakers. February 10, 2011 Colonial Conference Boys Basketball Sterling Silver Knights 49 Haddon Heights Garnets 45 Haddon Heights and Sterling were locked in the tightest of Colonial Conference matchups. The score was tied at the end of each of the first three quarters. It seemed neither team could take more than a two or three point lead. It came as no surprise the game came down to Heights' final possession and a two point Sterling lead. The potential game-tying shot by the Garnets was off the mark and following a Sterling rebound, a Heights' foul, and two free throws by Sterling's Marcus Taylor, the Silver Knights escaped with a 49-45 win. February 8, 2011 Colonial Conference Boys Basketball Collingswood Panthers 63 Paulsboro Red Raiders 60 Collingswood coach Joe McLoughlin picked up his 225th career win as the Panthers defeated Colonial Conference rival Paulsboro 63-60. McLoughlin is now the winningest coach in Collingswood boys basketball history, passing Ben Mark who won 224 games between 1934 and 1949. The Panthers had to overcome a two point halftime deficit and an early fourth quarter deficit to come back and defeat the Red Raiders. February 7, 2011 South Jersey Non-League Boys Basketball Triton Mustangs 62 Overbrook Rams 57 In the second game of this Overbrook/Triton doubleheader, these two teams traded baskets and swapped the lead back and forth for the entire first half. The game was tied at 12 at the end of the first quarter and the Mustangs grabbed a two point lead at halftime. The Rams built a four point advantage in the third quarter only to see Triton come back, take the lead, and extend their lead to seven points. The Mustangs eventually won 62-57. February 7, 2011 South Jersey Non-League Girls Basketball Triton Mustangs 54 Overbrook Rams 42 The Lady Rams and the Lady Mustangs met in the first game of an Overbrook/Triton doubleheader. Triton outscored Overbrook in each of the first three quarters to build a 49-24 lead entering the fourth quarter. Overbrook came out and played a very aggressive fourth quarter, outscoring the Lady Mustangs 18-5 and cutting into their lead, but the Lady Rams could get no closer than 54-42 before time ran out. The Clippers led 11-9 after the first quarter and clung to a one-point lead at halftime. A big third quarter for Clearview where they outscored Clayton 15-9 allowed the Pioneers to grab the lead and Clearview eventually won 46-36. Ervin Johnson led Clearview with 10 points. Dave Summerton and Aquil Simmons added 9 points apiece for the Pioneers. Dave Summerton's points came on three 3-pointers. February 3, 2011 Burlington County League Girls Basketball Palmyra Panthers 56 Maple Shade Wildcats 39 Palmyra jumped out to a 20-6 lead after the first quarter and a 43-13 advantage at halftime. When the two teams returned from the locker room for the second half, Maple Shade turned up the defense a notch and found some offense they had been lacking in the first half. The Lady Wildcats outscored the Lady Panthers 26-13 over the final two frames but could get no closer than 56-39 at the final buzzer. Palmyra's Aubrie Babb was the high scorer of the game with 15 points. Nine of Aubrie's points came on three 3-pointers. Kasandra Laws added 12 points for the Lady Panthers. February 1, 2011 Tri-County Conference Boys Basketball Deptford Spartans 69 GCIT Cheetahs 57 GCIT scored the first seven points in this game to take an early 7-0 lead. After that, Deptford settled down as the Spartans cut the GCIT lead to three at the end of the first quarter. The Spartans eventually built a ten point halftime lead on their way to a 69-57 win over the Cheetahs. Kendall Chapman's 16 points led four Spartans in double-digit scoring. DaRon Curry (15 points), Brandon West (14 points), and Khayri Mack (10 points) were also in double-digit scoring for Deptford. Kevin Krowicki led GCIT with 21 points. January 31, 2011 South Jersey Non-League Boys Basketball Maple Shade Wildcats 45 Gateway Gators 44 After trailing by 12 points at halftime, Gateway began to chip away at Maple Shade's lead in the second half. Joe Palmer sank two free throws to give the Gators a 41-39 lead with 3:04 remaining in the game. However, it was Maple Shade's Phil Jarmon that scored the final basket of the game as the Wildcats escaped with a 45-44 win. Phil Jarmon led Maple Shade with 11 points while Rob Anderson added 10. Highland had their chances to put away the Silver Knights, but the Tartans shot just 5 for 14 from the foul line in the final quarter. The Lady Hawks and Lady Herd matched each other point for point and swapped the lead numerous times. Haddon Township went on a run in the final two minutes of the first half to lead by 10 at halftime. The Lady Hawks increased their lead to 17 at the end of the third quarter, but the Lady Herd never gave up and kept fighting right up to the end.
